LAMENT

TEARS OF AN ORPHAN

Crying often

Heavy tears falling and piling

but to no relief

only more grief

stealing joy like a thief.

tears heavy like a tombstone

crush down sunken cheeks

and slowly dry.

Happiness lies low like graves

wounded and saddened.

An orphan in the world

is an outcast in the world,

outcast by a world

which is also orphaned.

Malice of the world

hunts young orphans,

yearning to do them wrong.

Foolish orphan-surrounding darkness

you have given me brightness.
